The RMCC management has come to a decision to build an additional production unit for deep processing near the Kuldur and Savkinsky brucite deposits.
Despite the dire situation in the world associated with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, in 2020 the volumes of production in the Kuldur deposit have showed sustainable growth, reaching 450 thousand tons.
The pandemic didn’t also stop the development of the Savkinsky deposit in accordance with the approved plan. The work scheduled for 2020 was accomplished within the established time limit, meeting all sanitary and epidemiological standards.
By April 2020, a road with a total length of 21 km was laid, which will enable to deliver all the essential equipment and materials directly to the place of geological exploration. By mid-May, the construction of an exploration camp for employees to stay have been completed. The exploration camp is provided with comfortable living conditions: modern all-weather residential tents, a dining room, a bath complex, as well as a high-speed satellite connection.
The drilling at the Savkinsky deposit was started on the 16th of May, which marked the beginning of analytical work on the technological study of ores. In October 2020, ten technological samples were taken at the deposit, a preliminary assessment of which showed the potential for obtaining high-quality products. The study of ores is planned to be completed in the 2nd quarter of 2021. And then bulk tests of the sensor-based sorting method will begin.
According to a multi-year phased program for the development of the Savkinsky deposit, the start of production is foreseen for early 2025.
Successful development and operation of the deposits has encouraged RMCC to make a decision to build a plant for processing of concentrated brucite ore in the Russian Far East. The new production site is expected to open up new markets due to its location — it is planned to market the high-quality products in South-East and East Asia. The company’s management recognizes the prospects of selling the magnesium hydroxide products to Asian partners, and the construction of the processing plant in the Far Eastern Federal District is designed to reduce the transportation costs to the countries of the region.
